Garden Gate B&B is located near the actual Sturgeon Bay, which cuts across most of Door County from Green Bay . There is a shipyard directly across the street, but it isn't intrusive. Whistles at the start and end of the shift , that's about it.
While the immediate area is unremarkable, the place is close to downtown in one direction and a lovely park on the bay in the other.
We stayed in the Vintage Rose room, which was clean and comfortable, but with a caveat. It is quite a small room. It's small size precludes a chair, and the bathroom doesn't have a door. It is something of a labyrinth, offering a decent measure of privacy, but a door would have been nice. The other rooms have bathroom doors, but beyond that I can't offer much comment. I booked the room on relatively short notice, and it was the only available room for the three nights of our stay. To emphasize, it was a good room, but the caveat is worth mentioning.
The rooms are on the second floor. There is a downstairs living room with comfortable seating, available around the clock.
The place is run by one woman, Robin, who does the housekeeping and cooking. She excels at both. The place was very clean, and breakfasts were exceptional.
Robin is a gregarious hostess. Breakfast is at 9:00, with the guests seated at one table. Robin encourages the guests to introduce themselves and talk about their plans for the day. We thought it was charming, but it may not be for everyone.
Overall, don't hesitate to stay there.
