Has a bar, open until 11pm. And it is genuinely all you need for a night stay. Also offers breakfast, full english for £9.99. And it is perfectly located for the Monsal Trail and ither walks.”

“A late Valentines night away. We stayed in the superior room which had everything you could ask for. The Bath tub is a must and the spa facilities were perfect to unwind after a freezing cold day! We dinned in the Bowling Green for tea and breakfast. Location is ideal right next door The steaks were lush, and the potato hash for breakfast you need to try! Staff and service was amazing. Will definitely come back again. ”

“We had a perfectly good stay at the Dog and Partridge, but the accommodation didn’t transpire to be what we expect. We were anticipating a cozy room, in a country pub setting but, in reality, the D&P offers good value, chalet-style family rooms, each with it’s own car port, in a large area behind the pub itself. “It was great! The staff were nice and approachable. They upgraded our room when I requested a closer room to the entrance as I am 30 weeks pregnant. The spa and pool were amazing as well. We enjoyed it. We'll be back again. ”

“Stayed in a pirate room and the theme was great and everything was decorated brilliantly. Plenty of storage space, small but sufficient room with great space saving and fun bunks for kids. Only issue was the cleanliness. There was food crumbs on the kids room ladder, sweet wrappers down the side of the shelf and chewing gum stuck to the lamp. That put a bit of a negative spin on it but if it had been cleaned properly then it's a great place to stay. ”

"The location was great and the staff tried hard, however, everything else was only just okay. The door lock system does not work well with you having to replace the keys frequently. Also, all the public areas are too small. The worst was getting into the breakfast room there were queues and some days impossible to get in."

"It's a good hotel. But they really need to do something about the noise level in the pool area, we were just 8 people in there but couldn't stay long because of how all sounds were amplified. We had to keep asking them for things at breakfast because no one appeared to be in charge of refilling the bread, cheese, etc. And the door to the room was completely without dampening so it slammed shut really really hard and fast. It's just a matter of time before a kid gets hit by it."

Hotel or halfway house?

"Let me begin by saying the staff are brilliant, professional and friendly. When I complained at checkout I felt respected and as though my concerns were being taken seriously. 10/10. Otherwise not much good to say about the place. It’s a budget hotel that seems to double up as a halfway house. I didn’t feel very secure there. My first night, I shared a lift with a man so off his head I was both intimidated and worried about him. The second night there was a group drunks partying in the corridor. I didn’t feel comfortable leaving my room. But it’s a rough part of town, the hotel can’t help that. I could feel the springs in the mattress. The bed linen, while washed, had some old stains, the pillows were useless, ventilation in the room wasn’t working properly and kept resetting to 23 degrees, there was obviously water damage in the “hall”, wallpaper peeling off, bathroom panel coming loose, loose plug sockets. The room wasn’t dirty per se, but could do with a deep clean. The walls are thin which doesn’t go well with macerating toilets. I did not sleep well at all."
