Summary:
Within a 40min drive from Helsinki, Katve Nature Retreat is our family-owned hideout surrounded by clean and quiet nature and ashore a beautiful freshwater lake. We are also located just a few kilometers from the sea and archipelago with great hiking and paddling opportunities.
The Kuusi Cabin is one of our 4 cozy cabins (two cabins semidetached) each with a private sauna. By the lake you'll find an outdoor fireplace and a summer kitchen perfect for cooking by the fire and enjoying the sunsets.
The Space:
Our guests can enjoy all the pleasures you expect in a home. There is a fully equipped kitchen with a large dining table and all the necessities, a large living-room with a sofa and a fireplace, two bathrooms (one with a toilet and sink and another one with a shower and private sauna), two bedrooms with double beds, upstairs has a large space with an additional single bed. The cabin is part of a semi-detached house meaning that there are two completely separate cabins in one house. The cabin comes with an amazing view of the surrounding nature and lake!
The surrounding environment and huge yard (shared with other guests) is our favorite part of the place! Right outside the door you will find 400m of shoreline on the freshwater lake perfect for taking a dip straight from the sauna, an outdoor fireplace for relaxing or cooking, a charcoal grill for your use, and hammocks amongst the trees. Also a possibility to participate a windsurf or stand up paddle course which we run occasionally through TwentyKnots.
The Neighborhood:
We ourselves are amazed each day that while being so close to Helsinki, you are completely isolated from any city hassle and in the middle of clean and quiet nature. On many mornings, you might for example see deer right outside your living-room window.
The clean freshwater lake is perfect for swimming, fishing, rowing, stand-up-paddling etc. The nearby forests are perfect for hiking, trail running, biking, meditating or picking berries and mushrooms. The cabin is also just approx. 2.5km away from the sea and archipelago where you will find a bridge to large lovely island with great hiking possibilities with an archipelago scenery.
On the way to our place the road takes you through beautiful countryside scenery and approx. 5km before you'll find a lovely small farmers shop and cafe open during the weekends with locally produced fresh organic products. A 10min drive to the nearby town Kirkkonummi will offer you everything you need with large grocery shops etc.
There is also a riding stable in the neighbourhood which offers country- and school riding lessons. If you're into water activities, TwentyKnots offers windsurfing lessons for you by request on the lake as well as stand-up-paddling tours on the archipelago. It is also possible to book private pilates or yoga lessons on land or on the stand -up-paddle boards. Approx. 4 kilometers away you'll find Rehndahl, a small domestic animal farm open for visitors to meet sheep, horses, goats, lamas and even falabellas (world's smallest horses).
The surrounding forests are home for elk, moose, deer, fox and bob cat. It is also a nesting place for many species of birds; white-tailed eagle, grey heron, swan, osprey. In the evenings you can hear black-throated diver and crane singing on the lake.
Great day trips from Katve are: Linlo island just a few kilometers away with places for campfire and great views to open sea and Porkkala, Kopparnäs and the Porkkala peninsula are worth visiting nearby and the Meiko lakedistrict offers a great area for a dayhike.
Interaction with Guests:
One of the four cabins at Katve, is in our own use. Occasionally we also run some windsurf and stand up paddle courses on the premises through our own windsurf and stand up paddle school TwentyKnots. We want to ensure you'll have a calm and peaceful stay and let you enjoy privacy but at the same time if you need any help or tips for anything we are always happy to help :).
