I decided on a 4-day no thrill trip, even taking the bus from Bangkok Int airport to Huahin. The saying, "You get what you pay for is really true". I paid about 850 baht/night vs. 11,800 baht/night I paid in jan1-4 at the InterContinental in Huahin. The room itself is large enough even for 2 persons and the shower was fine with plenty of hot water and decent pressure. The room also had a LCD TV (32"). But other than this, I would call this a guest house and not a hotel. No swimming pool, no fitness center, no spa and no restaurants. You could get a free coffee or tea if you asked for it. The staff arranged a taxi (tuk-tuk) to take me to the bus station (10-minute ride, I have walked this same distance with my son but without luggage) and charged 300 baht! I paid 150 baht from the bus station to the hotel in a car! A bit of a ripoff, but this is standard Thailand (the land of smiles as they rip you off). Still, for the price of the whole trip, I left with a smile and felt it was worth it, even the overpriced taxi ride. Would I do it again? Perhaps, but I need some time. It is quite a long walk from the hotel to the beach, so don't believe this 5-min walk as it is more 15 minutes.
